Sorry in the delay for my first post of the year and month on here. I ended up getting really sick last Friday and it caused me to be a day behind on things. So with out further ado, I would like to share my top 9 models of 2023!
For 2023 I have chosen the following models: Novelisto D, TB Trueno, Scurry (perlino variation), Daffodil (blossom series), Crane, 2010 WEG Classic Decorator, Pucker Up (Peter stone lemon decorator), and the mini spirit & rain porcelain figures. It was really hard in choosing as I had gotten so many other greta models, most of which were grails, but I ended up deciding on these as they contained some of my highest priority of grails.
After the sneak peaks revealed on the Breyerfest Blog, I knew it had to be the event/single day stablemates that would be revealed first. Lets take a look at what those shadowy silhouettes actually look like!
I have to say I am happy they are deco!! I think part of the reason why they are deco is because it is an anniversary year, its the 35th Breyerfest event since its inception in 1990. Also I think deco for against all odds better represents hope, and we'll get plenty of regular looking horses that represent hope and beating all odds anyway so adding some color really helps. Last we saw of deco stablemates was back in 2021 as that was an art related theme, before that was 2014 as it was the 25th anniversary for Breyerfest that year.
These have been named: Make It Pop Like Pink Champagne (Pink Akilah/Mini Zafirah), Waiting for That Green Light (Jumping Warmblood), Blue Jeans, White Shirt (Stock Horse Mare/Cassidy), and Suddenly I was Like a Lilac Sky (Prince Charming). The set as a whole/complete set is called Still Bejeweled. The packaging looks really cute for them.
Now from I heard these are all are named after song lyrics, makes sense as one is called "Blue Jeans, White Short" which is a Lana Del Ray song that I recognize as I do like some of her music. The rest I haven't heard and so far someone found two matching for pink champagne, but they believe it more than likely comes from an Ariana Grande song as its the most matching fit. I'll admit, the names do seem a little long due to this. I think simply Pink Champagne, Green Light, Blue Jeans, and Lilac Sky would've done Fien but maybe Breyer wanted his to search for the songs they were named after, If so, that would be pretty cool if that was the reason. (Quick side note, Green Light looks a little too minty green almost like turquoise blue rather than green but I still like it.)
Some people so far don't like them and don't get how they got with the theme, and thats fine. Making the mini models sometimes isn't easy to make them fit with certain themes outside of name alone. Plus I know not everyone is a deco fan, which is again fine as there won't always be a release for everyone but there will be others that may fit their tastes best. Me, I think they're fine. This theme does seem a little hard to find things that would fit and make it festive outside of naming a horse alone. Similarly went for the art theme, "Horse of a Different Color." Also some argue the lyrics infringe copyright, I don't think so as Breyer probably has a great legal team that would look out for this. Plus the lyrics are so vague and yet so common they could've come form anywhere. there just pretty generic and if they were copyrighted we'd be running out of words to use for entertainment pretty quickly. Plus like earlier, someone found two songs with Pink Champagne so I doubt that's copyrighted.
Either way I am hoping to get them through the VIP set as I do like them as they are softer colored decos. Kind of like how Giverny is, and I liked that as usually the decos are bold and most of the time they are fine, others for me were a hit or miss type of deal. Now to wait for the next reveal, so far the sneak peak hints at a Brindle which I'm hoping for as I find they aren't done often in many horse media like models/figures, games, etc.
